What can you do when you can’t get to the dentist and you are in pain?

Q: What can you do when you can’t get to the dentist and you are in pain?

A: Your first option is to call your dentist and ask for advice. Your second option is to control the pain until you can get in to see your dentist. Over-the-counter medications can be very effective–just be sure that you’re not allergic to them. Advil, Motrin, Ibuprofen and aspirin taken at the maximum dosage should eliminate or dull the discomfort until your appointment. (Tylenol tends to be less effective in easing l pain because it does not have an anti-inflammatory effect.) You might also try applying an ice pack to the side of the face for pain relief.
